The Diving Diseases Research Centre (DDRC) specialises in the treatment of medical emergencies including decompression illness (the bends), carbon monoxide poisoning, and soft tissue infections such as necrotising faciitis and gas gangrene. It also specialises in the treatment of non-healing wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, and the treatment of healing issues in cancer patients who have undergone radiotherapy for their condition.
It is in the context of these specialities that our research portfolio is being developed - issues surrounding diving and wound healing form the heart of the research being undertaken at the centre. Both aspects are often conducted as collaborative efforts with national and international research partners including various university and medical school departments.
